The Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) are not happy chaps at the moment! There is concern in the industry that building codes are the use of programs that are not in Canada and the replacement of Canada's standards-based .

The emerging interest in green buildings and sustainable energy has led to several new programs and green in construction and housing have been introduced that do not have permission CHBA.

Their concern is centered on the new LEED-H standard, which is being developed in Canada by the Canadian Green Building Council. The CHBA is concerned that municipalities regulate the construction of new homes, making use of LEED compliance, thus circumventing the CHBA the system of codes and standards.

The Vice President of CHBA pointed out that the LEED standards will be managed by a private group to bring their own agenda, and this is not the way, building standards are introduced in the country. He added that the development of codes and standards are rigorous, transparent and with a lot of responsibility.

The interest in homes with high energy efficiency and sustainable building method has several new "green" programs and standards to be introduced in Canada.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The LEED standards are based on the five main categories: energy and atmosphere, indoor environmental quality, materials and resources, sustainable sites and water efficiency.

Currently they are only to commercial and multi-residential, but now for LEED-H will be developed to domestic housing.

CHBA has a draft for domestic dwellings, R-2000 was twenty years ago and has several updates. Its mandate was, super energy efficient homes, a criterion that the international demand for Canadian home designs from around the world. Countries such as Chile, Ireland and Russia are just some of the countries that have Canadian building consultant and know-how.

However, builders have said that at home in Canada, the R-2000 was a tough sell. Instead of extra money for energy efficiency, potential homeowner would give the money to upgrade is complete, the more visual enjoyment.

As with many green issues, to step into the government to legislate and demand of energy-saving, by right-owners around the world will often choose to home owners to spend their money for visual appeal.

The CHBA has said that it is time to adapt their R-2000-Standard for its original purpose, to an elite standard of energy and environmental performance, promote innovation in the construction industry at home.

Sounds like something has to spur innovation in the Canadian Home Builders Association?
